An about me page is a great way to show your personality and share more information with readers. It can also be an important tool for building audience engagement. In this blog post, we will discuss the sections of an about me page and what makes a good one!
Whether its a travel blog, lifestyle blog, baking blog, cooking blog, or DIY blog…your readers want to know who is behind the words.
BUT, everyone who has written an About Me page knows it’s one of the hardest pages to write!
What Makes a Good About Me Page?
Start with an attention-grabbing headline
All about me pages need to start with an attention-grabbing headline. Welcome the reader to you blog and give them a sense of your personality.
Tell the readers who you are and what they can expect from future posts
Talk about yourself with an introduction paragraph, then tell people what to expect in upcoming blog posts by highlighting any recurring topics or themes that will be covered in these articles.
Include a photo of yourself, or your team
Right after grabbing attention, the next thing you want to do is create a connection and nothing does that better than photo. Double points if it’s one of those smiling ones!
Showcase your experience & expertise
Why can you write on this topic? Have you worked with some of the top brands? Do the experts come to you when they need help. This is the section where you toot your won horn!
Share a little about yourself
Tell a little bit about yourself – one paragraph should be enough for an intro bio. Share interests, hobbies, passions- all of these things can help people connect with you on a deeper level.
Use your readers language
If your blog is casual, your About Me page should be too. If it’s a formal blog that you hope will lead to freelance or consulting work, speak in a professional voice.
Link our to your other profiles
Most blogs will have at least one social profile, whether it be Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin, Pinterest, or any of the others.
If your readers are interested enough to visit your blog, and then find your About Page, they will be interested and engaged enough to follow you on social media too. Use this opportunity to get an extra follower on your account!
It doesn’t need to be complex. It could even be some simple text links to your profiles. There is no need to go crazy finding a social media plugin for WordPress just to link off to your profiles (and risk slowing down your blog!).
End with a call to action
Your blog exists for a reason. Surely there is one task you want your readers to take.
Should they join your mailing list?
Or do you have a hero article you want all your visitor to read?
